DONATE to Lady Ridgeway Hospital Colombo

What’s happening in Sri Lanka and Why was this fundraiser urgently needed?

Sri Lanka is going through a severe economic crisis which is manifesting as a worsening humanitarian calamity affecting many aspects of day-to-day survival and many sectors of Sri Lankan society.

The significant hardships faced by the vast majority of Sri Lankans has been made worse by the increasingly dire situation unfolding in the medical sector, which is suffering from an unprecedented lack of essential medical supplies needed to carry out everything from routine procedures to life-saving surgeries.

As the island nation’s foreign reserves plummet, these critical supplies needed to save lives, which are all imported, are simply not getting into the country.

Doctors and hospitals across Sri Lanka are calling out for these urgently needed supplies to save everyone from newborn babies to adults and elders needing life saving procedures and medicine.

The aim of this fundraiser is to gather funds to help the Paediatric Cardiac Unit at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo Sri Lanka. Our point of contact there is Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe, the head of the Paediatric unit at this well known and well regarded medical establishment. The funds will be transferred directly to the account of Little Hearts Lady Ridgeway.

Please follow me on my instagram OR keep an eye on this fundraiser page to see documentation of the funds transfer.

Being raffled is a large Batik and Indigo wall hanging (pictures in the gallery above).

Measuring 196 cm/ 77 inches in length by 97 cm/ 38 inches this entirely handmade piece has been hand-dyed in my organic Indigo vat using plant materials and natural dye techniques only. The deep indigo saturation has been achieved through many dips in the indigo vat.

The design is drawn freehand directly onto the fabric, a medium canvas weight muslin of 100% organic cotton, then waxed using traditional batik techniques and handmade Sri Lankan batik tools.

The wall hanging is finished using hand-stitched and embroidered details, and mounted on pieces of driftwood sustainably sourced from one of our most loved Olympic Peninsula beaches.

The lotus flower, one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved and significant motifs, symbolises the strength and beauty arising out of the murk and mud of hardship and darkness. Surrounded by the deep blue of the Indian Ocean, this little pearl of an Island has historically been a shining symbol of civilization, culture and pinnacles of human brilliance. The original Serendip, the Paradise Isles, most sought-after Shangri-la of the ancient world.

With your help, She will shine her light on the world once again.
